Wanmei Zhang

Mezzo-Soprano Wanmei Zhang, hailing from China, embarked on her Doctor of Music Arts journey at Stony Brook University in the fall of 2023, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Jeremy Little. She holds a bachelor’s and Master’s in China and a second master’s degree in the U.S. in Classical Voice. She studied with Shirley Close during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music. Before Wanmei Zhang committed herself as a classical singer, she had five years of education studying popular music with Jing Lu in China, who tutored a couple of singers for The Voice of China.
In 2021, She attended Sewanee OperaFest in Tennessee and studied with Laura Brooks Rice and Dugg McDonough.
Her study of lyric soprano roles includes Susanna and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, and Liu in Turandot. In 2023, she participated in Handel’s Messiah at SBU. But she transferred to mezzo-soprano on the advice of Brenda Harris during her study at SBU,
She held many recitals in China, California, and New York City in the U.S. and is experienced in a variety of repertoire, which includes English, German, Italian, French, Russian, and Chinese. Moreover, she had two years of experience singing in the choir in California. She is experienced in teaching popular and classical singing.
